The National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is part of the United States federal government's Department of Health and Human Services, has developed a Web site -- Clinical Trials.gov -- that provides up-to-date information for locating federally and privately supported clinical trials for a wide range of diseases and conditions.

The database contains more than 27,000 clinical studies sponsored by the government, colleges and universities, and private companies. You can search the database by location or condition. Complete alphabetical listings are also available.

In addition to Clinical Trials.gov, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Web site offers information for consumers on all areas of FDA activity, including drug testing and approval. Although the FDA does not list specific studies, it is a good source of general information.

Another site that is a good source of information on women's health is the National Women's Health Information Center, a project of the Federal Government's Department of Health and Human Services, Office on Women's Health. For general health information, you may want to consult Medline Plus, which is sponsored by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, which is part of NIH.

These listings and Web sites do not constitute an endorsement by the Society for Women's Health Research or its supporters. However, we do believe these Internet sites are reliable. Any information obtained from these Web sites should be used in conjunction with advice from health care professionals.
